Panel Magic

Panels! What do I  do with them?  I love the panel but don't know what to do with it? These are questions I get asked a lot. I have had some help with the panels from my good friend Shelly. She has been creating a few panel projects for me, which has helped give people ideas, but they still want more. So in 2019 we are going to do a Panel Magic workshop. Starting with some Show and Tell featuring a number of panel projects we will look at the original panel and then the finished project and go through some of the basics involved. You will need a notepad and pen to take down notes.
After the Show and Tell we will head to our machines, panels, fabrics and tools and create our own panel project.

Here are some of the projects we have made with panels that we have in the shop.

There are more but I will save them for the workshop but you may see them hanging the shop or at event we attend. Look out for the new 2019 workshop list in December. You can alway find it here on my blog if you didn't know.

Fire Island Hosta Workshop

We had Elizabeth in store teaching us how to make Quiltworx Fire Island Hosta quilt.

It is a two part workshop Part one was on Sunday and part 2 will be in December. We have a bit of homework to do between workshops so we are ready for part 2.

This is one piece from each of our projects together, so you can see how different they all will be when we finish.
So it has been decided we are having a homework session in store today. So we can help each other and make sure we make some progress on our homework. I am thinking we may need to have some more of these homework sessions in next year's class/workshop program to help us finish our Cynthia's Ark projects.
 What do you think?
Would you attend workshops like this?
I would love your thoughts as I am working on next year's class/workshop program.

Janet Collins Visit

A few weeks ago we had Janet Collins visit us at Cynthia's Ark to teach. She was in Adelaide for the Australian Machine Quilting Festival, so the following day she joined us for a one day workshop.

We had a ball and we all learnt lots during the course of the day. Plus after lunch the sewing machines came out and we were able to play under Janet's instructions on a few different projects.  As I was busy I wasn't able to sit down in front of the machine and sew, lots to do to keep things running and helping were help was needed. I was able to soak up the information as the day went on. So last weekend during our Project Uninterrupted session in store I was able to have a go at one of the projects done during the day. This allowed me to use the new Feathered Leaf Template from Westalee Designs and play some more with the Templee technique which I am really enjoying.  Here is my feathers wall hanging before I cut it out then the after shot with the cut outs done.
A close up shot for you.

Plus we will be do a workshop in February on this technique for any one interested.

Craziness Galore Here

I have been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to blog or even to share much on Instagram. This is a shame but you don't want to see the boring stuff. Do you?

There has been lots and lots of planning going on. For all sorts of stuff, like next year's retreat. Yes I have had to get moving on that one as October is a popular time of the year. When I checked for dates there wasn't a lot of options open as they were already booked. So I will have to remember that next year 2 months before our next retreat I am looking at dates for 2019.
What else have I been working two new patterns designs, one is a mystery project for November class.

The other is a larger project for next year which may just be our next Block of the Month.

Classes is the other thing I have been working on for next year. There is 6 new classes planned plus 3 classes that need to be repeat as there is more interest in them.Of course we will still have our 2 Project Uninterrupted sessions each month. A question for everyone.

If you were going to do a class what would you like to learn?

Share your thoughts in the comment section for me please. It is alway good to know what people want to learn when planning classes.

I have been busy adding new workshops to our calendar. You can check it anytime here on the blog under the Event/Workshop tab. I will do a post like this when I add new events and workshops to that page. So if you haven't looked in awhile you will still be alerted that something new has been added. There is still a couple of place open in our Sands of Time Hourglass workshop on the 13th May. The class sample has just come back from being quilted by Valerie of the House of Valerie. The plans is to bind it and take to the Laura Folk Fair but time is short one week left. Lots of other preparation still to be done.

There is 3 new workshops added to the calendar this week.

On the 29th of June I will be running the How to make Wool Felt Workshop. There is a choice of two projects to make, a scarf and a pin cushion. Both are easy project.

On the 8th of July we have the Piping and Zipper Cushion Workshop. This is a technique workshop for you to learn how to make piping and insert a zip while you make your cushion or two.

On the 12th August there is the Stars! The English Paper Pieced Way Workshop. Learn how to English Paper Piece a star and turn it into a simple cushion or wall hanging.

You can find all the details for these up coming workshops on our Event and Workshop page. If you have a workshop suggestions let me know what you would like to learn, that way we can tailor the workshops around what you would like to learn.
