Color it Red Blog Hop

Here we are gathered together around for the Color it Red Blog Hop. Thanks to Carol from Just Let Me Quilt for hosts us. Red is the natural colour for February as Valentine Day is in it and for me in South Australia it is Summer so we often have scorching hot days. So I was thinking I may need a colour themed wall hanging I could hang out for the month of February. Hearts were first to pop in to my mind for the project but I found a couple of red and white prints in my stash that was screaming out to me to use. So for some unknown reason the hearts went out the window and I ended up with this simply layout with the two fabrics.

A close up of the two fabrics. Yes only two fabrics cut into 3 inch squares. Why don't I have more of that red stripe in my stash? That's right I have used it a couple times now.

Then I added a small red border to the top and bottom from the red stipe cut the other way, followed by a piece of the red and white print larger piece at the top and a smaller piece at the bottom.
More red and white on the back some simple quilting hanging sleeve and binding to complete my latest wall hanging.

All the fabrics came from my stash, I don't quite believe I had that much red in my stash but I got there. It's quick and easy project to make and you could make a few different one to hang at different times of the year.

Here is the list for the whole blog hop. So pop around and say hello and check out what everyone has made.

Temperature Quilt 2020 Starting

I have decided on an English paper piece flower block for this year's temperature quilt. I am hoping it will be easier than last year's. Not that flying geese blocks are hard. What was hard is getting the time at the sewing machine to make them. So in theory I should be able to put a few together in the evening when I sit down before bed, if I am not too tired.

This is how it will work. There is 8 petal and 1 centre, so 9 all up. I was thinking weekly but that would be 52 blocks. Doing it this way I think I should have 42 blocks to work with, which should give me a 6 x 7 lay out. That works for me. I still have to work out the block size that I will applique my flowers to but I will make a few flowers before I decide that.

The first flower is only be half a flower as the year started mid week.

I will mark the starting petal as I piece the flowers so I know which way the flower will sit as the starting point of each flower will be at the 12 o'clock position. Also I will put a number to keep the flowers in order. Each flower on one of the papers will have 1 - 1, then 2-1, 3-1 and so on, that way I know the order they will sit in the quilt.
The second block done. I really like my first block, so you may see a few more just to make my quilt more interesting.

The ladies hard at work cutting their fabrics in the morning.

By the end of the workshop  we had some of rows together  showing us the difference between fabrics selected.

They are going to be stunning when they are finished.
We have spots in many of our upcoming workshops, so don't be shy about joining us in learning something new or advancing your skills. There are workshops for all skill levels, so beginners are welcome.

One Monthly Goal- February's Goal

What to set myself for February? I know I have those old UFO projects to complete but I want a little goal for February.
So with that in mind I am going to bind my Dragon quilt.
I collected it from Valerie(House of Valerie) when? A good question. Technically I collected two quilts that day and I have only pulled them out yesterday.

The quilting design is dragon's breath (flames)
I have cut the binding strips ready to go today for this one.

I have link my post with Elm Street Quilts post, so pop over and check out the goal's everyone has set themselves.

350 Block Report- January's Report

Here we are at the start of a new year. We have reset back to zero. 350 blocks to make over the course of the year. Hopefully there will be a lot more than that, but you never know what may happened during the year.
This month's total is 15 blocks.

I started the year with these five blocks.

Plus all these pinwheel border for a quilt 63 in total. Quite a few more to come.

16 blocks and 3 borders for this baby's quilt.

This month's total is 87.
