Dust off a Quilt Book Blog hop

This is my first blog hop of the year and one of my favourite. I would like to thank Bea from Beaquilter for hosting us. I have been having a few technical issues, resulting in me having to using my old Blogger account for this one. Some of you may have come directly here and others may have had to go through the original link  I just hope you got here.

 I get to dive into my quilt book collection and pick a book and create something from it. Not sure where I got this one from, but here it is in my collection. It was published back in 1991. 

Now I was only dating my husband to be in 1991, I hadn't starting quilting and when you look at the instructions in the book there is only scissors used to cut fabric and everything is done with graph paper and templates. A really old school book.

So I delved into this book looking at the projects and thought some little pin cushions would be fun to make. Then I had to get the graph paper out to draw up the block as it tells you to trace the line drawing and make templates for you to them cut out the fabric.  Look at these instructions.

My theory is if I draw it up on graph paper that will tell me how big each piece is and I can cut my fabric out using my rotary cutter. Then I can dive into my scrap box and make all sorts of colourful houses.

 

My finished pin cushion next to the the pattern in the book. It took me more time to create this post than sew the pin cushion together. It is really cut I think when I have some free time I may make more blocks and turn them into pin cushions.

350 block Report 2017- July's Report

The target for this month is 29 blocks.

I am glad to say some sewing has happened this month.

24 blocks for the next stage of my Gypsy Wife quilt, blocks are done. Here comes the hard part sewing them all together.

I pulled out my Scrap Dance Tango project to finish so 2 more blocks for this one, but I need to look up the pattern as I am not sure if this layout is correct.

Two chubby Dresdens flowers that became a pin cushion for a workshop.

 

Borders went on a large wall hanging for 1 more.

Then some major assembling on the Gypsy Wife quilt I have counted each section I sew together as 1 toward my monthly total.

So 5 more as I have completed 5 sections 

One Round we go block

 Fingers crossed I can keep going during August with more sewing. 

So my total is 35 for this month.

Multi Purpose Pyramids

A little side project had me making a detour away from my plans. On my Facebook page I like to share free projects and ideas I find along with other stuff. So if you haven't seen or liked my page I recommend you pop over and have a look. You will find the link for this little project, Little pyramids.  I am think they would be good to hold down the table clothes at the Laura Folk Fair as it is an outdoor event. Then my friend Maureen suggested I use shell grit in them and I could double their usage as pin cushions when I don't need them for table cloth weights. I thought this was a brilliant idea. So on my way home on Friday I stopped into my favourite pet shop and picked up a bag. I'm glad they didn't ask any questions but I do wonder if I am going to get text message specials on fish stuff, like I do with the cat stuff I normally buy from them. We will see. No chance of having a fish tank in our house with our cats. It would be a recipe for disaster.

Here is the link to the project  if you want to make some. I recommend them, they are easy to make and I can see a number of uses for them. Table Cloth weights, Paperweights, Pattern weights, Pin cushions, decorative objects on a shelf displaying your favourite fabrics and I am sure they would be more uses for them. Just thought of another one Cat toy fill it with catnip.

With 2kg of shell grit I can make plenty more if I like. 4 table weights will only do 1 of my tables for the fair so I will need to make at least 4 more.
