One Monthly Goal - June's Finish

We are at the end of June and I have not spent much time stitching, I didn't start this month goal until the 13th June. Click here to find out more about this month goal.

So here I am on the last weekend of the month trying to finish it. It is one of the Quiltworx projects I need to complete as part of journey to becoming a Quiltworx certified shop.

It should have been easy, but here I am under pressure to finish it. Now I have to wait until December before I can baste and quilt it.

I have linked my post with Elm Street Quilts finishing post, so pop over and check out how everyone did this month. Maybe you will join us next month.

Our Paradise in Bloom workshop

On Sunday we had our fourth workshop on the Quiltworx Paradise in Bloom series. We had very productive day and are starting to see our hard work coming together.

At the end of the day we laid out what we had completed so far, to get a glimpse of what our quilts are going to look like.

Next time we get together we will be assembling our quilts.

Great day of Rulerwork Basics

  • My Rulerwork workshops are popular. From the basics to more advance techniques can be learnt during these workshops.
We were on the basic techniques today. Sometimes getting started is there hardest part when starting something new. We all have done it, seen something and dive in head first. Then we get stuck when we try it at home. When I do these workshops I always have a beginner or two in these workshops. Today we focused on the basics of getting started.
Straight lines is always our starting point, followed by circles and rotating templates.

As you can see the ladies have done a fantastic job.  They learnt lots of little tips during the day.  I got a little bit done after class on a project that will be featured in an upcoming rulerwork workshop. It is one thing to practice on quilt sandwiches, but we all love making a project we can take home completed or nearly completed.

One of the great resources we discussed today was the Sew Steady  University, where you can purchase classes and expand your knowledge. I
recommend watching them first and then starting the project.

The best thing is if you get stuck you can rewatch them. They have some that are free, along with the ones you have to pay for.

I stock the Sew Steady and Westalee Design  products, so if you need something for a workshop please contact me and I am happy to help.
If I don't have it in stock, I can order it in for you.

Here is the link to the Sew Steady University.  Pop over and check out what is on offer. Please note if you purchase anything through this link, it will help me expand my knowledge too. That way I can continue help you along your rulerwork journey.

I  have regular rulerwork workshops, so check out the workshop schedule for the next workshops. I only have 4-5 students per workshop. They fill fast, July's workshop is full already.

June Long Weekend

It's the June long weekend here. Normally you would find me at the Salisbury Craft Fair, an event that I have done for over 20 years. With the virus restrictions, we are not allowed events that big to go ahead. I must admit, it does feel a bit odd not being there.  That means I am in the shop all weekend. I had big plans for getting in lots of extra sewing, finishing my Paradise in Bloom homework, sewing my test block for the It's a Garden Party Row Along in September and maybe starting my Broken Daisies project all cut out ready to sew.  I have go this far in my Paradise in Bloom homework, so you can see I am not going anyway fast.

Though the sewing is not happening, that doesn't mean I have been lazing about doing nothing. Orders have been going out, customers have been in the shop, lots of cutting happening for BOM, Clubs and kits.
Plus we have set dates for two new Workshops in August.
on Sunday 9th August we are running our Double Wedding Ring Workshop which we ran a couple of years ago and updated our shop sample using batiks. You can make a table runner, Table topper, bed runner or you can start a quilt. Workshop fee is $60, Rulers and Fabric are extra but you will receive a 20% discount when you are purchasing them through the shop.

The other workshop is on How to make Pineapple Blocks. We have a few samples to show you different looks. This workshop is on the Sunday 30th August. Workshop fee is $60. Rulers and fabric are extra, but you will receive a 20% discount when you purchase them through the shop. This one is filling fast.

Remember our workshops are still small due to the restrictions, so book early to avoid missing out. Call into the shop or ring me to book yourself in.
Don't Forget to check our Workshop page here on the blog regularly for updates to the schedule or on our website.

One Monthly Goal - June's Goal

We find ourselves in June already. What is there I need to do?  I have a long list but I thought I would work on this project That I need to make Broken Daisy     I need to make 2 placemats. So it should be an easy task.

I have it all cut out, so it is a matter of finding the sewing time to make the parts up.

I have linked my post with Elm Street Quilts post, so pop over and see what everyone is up to.

Basting Time

There is so much happening here, most of it is boring and not worth telling you about. The behind the scenes running of a quilt shop is pretty mundane. I know you think I play with fabric and get to sew all day and that is fun, but in reality I don't get to do that as often as you may think. I have been trying to work on my schedule, so I can put some fun sewing time in to my day.
It's come down to slipping in 30 minutes here and there when I can. The other day, I decided that I am swapped my business hat for my project hat and made some time to basted this quilt.

It's been sitting here since last year, ready for quilting. It uses Karen Styles     Meridian Stars range and believe or not it is a panel quilt. I have only added the last two borders. How cool is that! I have a Panel Magic workshop planned for July, with spots still available. Fingers crossed I can get this quilted before then.

I have sprayed basted this quilt. I am often asked what I prefer to basted with. I alway tell them it all depends on the size.  A small project gets spray basted with 505 Spray and Fix basting spray,  but larger quilts I will pin baste.  This one is getting towards my limits for spray basting, but I got it done without sticking the quilt to myself. I know that would make a funny photo to share, a quilt spray basted to myself but then someone else would have to be there to witness the mess I can get myself into. Sorry that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Now for the quilting, I need to pull out my Westalee Design rulers and see which ones I want to use. I have a few new ones I want to play with, so we will see soon which oned I use.
