350 Block Report -May

May's Total is 31 blocks.
I manage to sew up the following
24 triangle blocks, 5 sets of sashing strip units and borders for a total of 30.

1 block towards my Paradise in Bloom quilt. 

There was a stack of Paradise in bloom half blocks made but they don't count until I piece them together, so a head start on June's total.

My monthy total is 31.

My Yearly total is 248.

Our Abbie English Paper Piecing Workshop

On Saturday we had our English Paper piecing workshop featuring Sue Daley's Abbie pack. This make the workshop more interesting as we are working with non traditional shapes. It can make things more challenging too. 

We started with a morning of selecting fabrics and cutting fabrics for one block. The packs have enough paper piecing included to make a quilt and you can even select to two different pack and create a two block quilt. This would create a much larger quilt. 

After lunch we got stuck in to the sewing, chatting and laughing.. It is a really different feel compared to a workshop with the machines going. Maybe even a soothing feel to the day. We have been apart for too long and it was really nice to hear the chatter in the classroom again. I must admit I have missed that, even though I thought no classes would give me more time to work on other stuff I needed to do. It didn't quite turn out that way. Here are a sample of the ladies blocks they start with.

I look forward to seeing their blocks completed. It was a good mix of fabrics used. There was Tilda, Sue Daley's Abbie, Sweet Stems & Paper Daises ranges used and mine was from Riley Blake Designs Heart and Soul range.

This workshop will be repeated shortly as I have others wanting to do this workshop. So if you are tempted let me know and keep an eye open for the workshop date. This is a great workshop to expand your English paper piecing skills, or if you are finding hexagons, diamonds etc boring as you have done a number of those projects.

One Monthly Goal - May's Goal Completed

We have reached the end of May and it's time to report in on how we did. You can see my goal setting post here.
I was working on these blocks. I needed 24 more blocks for my Charmed Elements quilt. Technically a smaller version of Quiltworx Fractured Paintbox.

I got all the blocks made and had fun working on the layout with my little assistant. She is very good at rearranging blocks.

This is my final layout. Now let's hope I can sew it together in the right order.

It didn't happen. I stuffed it up more than once and not realised until I got the blocks all together.  So I had to unpick the offending blocks and fix it. How I did it, is beyond me as I had the rows pinned. How I got a block from row 3 in row 4 and the row 4 block in row 3 I have no idea.

Than after fixing that I discovered a block in row 2 was twisted. More unpicking, until I end up with this version. Now I am happy, though grizzling at myself for stuffing it up and losing time on something else I could have been working on.

I have the borders to go, but the task was to finish the blocks.
