April's One Monthly Goal Finish

After March's failure to finish, April has seen that project completed with time to spare.

I can't believe I did it this month as it has been just as busy as March and it is not looking like it will ease up soon.

One Handmade- Lucky quilt finished.

This will give me time to consider next month goal's and organise myself for May.

Sew It Together - Lucky - Handmade Sew Along #9

I spent a couple of hours at the sewing machine and was able to sew all the block rows with the sashing rows together to finish my top from the Sew It Together - Lucky - Handmade Sew Along.

It was great to finally see the top all together considering I chose the grey instead of a white/cream like the pattern. It looks even better in person my picture doesn't show how well the colour pops with the grey. It is now ready for quilting.

Now I have to decide on the backing fabric and get it pinned so I can quilt it. That will be a big job, it is a large quilt.

On to the next project and I better schedule a pinning day and a quilting day. Maybe I can finish 1or 2 quilts before the end of the year.

Sew It Together Handmade - Lucky Sew Along #8

I had some sewing time which was determined by how much thread was on the bobbin. I was sewing until the bobbin thread ran out and with seams that are 16 1/2" in length it will come quickly.

 I finished all my blocks and laid them out after I added the sashing strip to each one. A couple needed to be turned so I put them at the beginning of the rows as the blocks rows all need a sashing strip to start the row.

I cut the all sashing strips using my new Stripology ruler which I can see getting a lot of use in the future.
 At least all the blocks have 1 sashing strip sewn to them and the first block row is together. The rest are now neatly pinned in their rows and I still have the sashing rows with cornerstones to do in the next sewing session which better come soon than later.

Sew It Together- Lucky- Handmade Sew Along #7

Now all the half square triangle units are finished including the trimming I set to work sewing the blocks together.

A good chain piecing session with good results missus the one I stuffed up and required some reverse stitching to fix but at least I spotted it before I sewed it into a block. Easier to fix as part of a sub block than a completed block. Too much reverse sewing would have had to be done if I missed it.

This is what the blocks look like when they are completed.

 Only 11 more blocks to go.

Yes they are large at  16 inches. It will make a decent size quilt once the sashing are added, even with only 12 blocks.

Sew It Together Lucky-Handmade Sew Along #5

So I made all my half square triangle units and there is a pile of trimming to do.

What does a girl do? Well this girl does it in batches. I just don't have the patience to do it all at once. I trim a batch then I do something else (In an ideal world that would be sewing but often other things need my attention) But I did sew 1 quarter blocks together so I gOT a little taste of what the blocks are going to look like with the grey as the neutral.

Hopefully I will have these all done sooner than later.

Sew It Together Lucky-Handmade Sew Along # 4

After cutting all the block fabrics we are ready to sew.

Lots of half square triangle units to make. So this calls for a chain piecing session. I set myself up with a cuppa early Friday morning after I set the dishwasher and washing machine going and off I went to see how far I could get through these piles of squares. I did draw my diagonally line on my grey squares earlier this week while watching TV.

I finished off the coloured squares and there was some grey squares leftover.

What did I do wrong? Did I cut too many grey squares or not enough coloured squares. On a recount the grey squares reached the 96 squares I needed but I was 20 coloured squares short.  Found them! I accidently put them with the 4" squares I cut as they came from the same fabrics.(See the first picture I took, right hand side pile the missing squares under the 4 " squares.)  They now have been sewn together and I cut them apart in front of the TV.

There will be a pressing and squaring up session some time soon.

Sew It Together- Lucky- Handmade Sew Along #2

This week we were given our cutting instructions by a video tutorial. I don't know about everyone else but I do like to see instructions sometimes rather than just written instructions.
First job was to select the squares we wanted to use. Two piles one to by cut one way and the other to be cut differently.

 I must say I'm glad we didn't need all the squares in the layer cake as this is what I found when I was selecting my squares for my quilt.

One square that is not a 10"square.  Now I have heard this sometimes happens but this is the first time I have actually seen it. It is disappointing but at least I don't need it.

Next to cut all the squares and my neutrals. Stacking them up and cutting multiple squares made it easy going and before I knew it I was done cutting for the blocks.

Sew It Together- Handmade-Lucky Sew Along

My friend Alix from Alize Fabrics is running a Sew Along starting next week. I decided to join in for some fun. The pattern is Thimble Blossoms Lucky and we are using Bonnie and Camille Homemade layer cake. With that set in place all I had to do was select the neutral needed for the blocks and sashing.
I am not a fan of white so straight away I wanted to see what other colour I could use. This is what I selected. A grey from Riley Blake Designs Solid range which I carry in stock at Cynthia's Ark. As we don't need all the layer cake squares I an going to leave out some of the dark squares so I keep a good contrast between the fabrics.
