Happy Dance Time

It is time for a little happy dance as I have finished another project of this year list. It is my Quiltmaker Mystery Auld Lang Stitches quilt from 2015 finally done. There is still a lots more projects to finish but this one is on my 2016 Finish Along Q4 list and on my Project Uninterrupted list. So it can be crossed off and I can move on to the next one. I am sure there is one ready for pinning and quilting. I can see an opportunity to do some more FMQ with the rulers in my quilting future. I am enjoying the exploring the possibilities with these rulers and I have a new one to try.

Back to this finish and I used the 6" spiral ruler only on this quilt which is in the sampler set. Now you can purchase the Westalee Design Ruler foot and ruler from my shop if you are interested to move into the world of FMQ with rulers.

Have you used rulers when you FMQ? I would love to hear your thoughts on them. Do you love them?  Do you have any issues using them?Do you want to have a go at using them and not sure where to start?  Any thought would be appreciated.
I have this one in my sight next. I can see all those squares with a design in each one. I just need to decide on which ruler/template I want to use.  It will be on top of my 2016 list.
I have linked up with the rest of the 2016 Finish Along Gang so pop over and check out what they have finished.

2016 Finish Along Q4 List

Last quarter was a total disaster. I added a couple extra projects to my list and only completed one project on the list. With that said I did get one quilt quilted ready for binding and I made some progress on another one. So this quarter's list looks like this.
1. To quilt and bind my 2015 Quiltmaker Mystery quilt. Auld Lang Stitches Quilt.
 2.  This one is quilted ready for the binding to go on.

3. My Victorian Fling is now ready for quilting, so I got all the blocks together last quarter with borders. That is good. I need to select the backing still and pin it..

4. My Forget Me Not quilt has seen progress in the last quarter but as I am English paper piecing it is taking time. 12 blue blocks to go around in this step after I fix my mistake. 3 on 9 more to go and then it is the last step to do.
5. My Crazy Cat  Panel Quilt just need it's border added and it will be ready for quilting.
6. Lastly my Allietare quilt no progress in the last quarter but the blocks are all made ready to be sewn together.

Let's see if I can make some real progress on this list this quarter. Pop over to She Can Quilt  and check out what everyone else has on their list. You may be inspired to finish some of your  own projects off with us.

Under the Pressure Foot #22

It has been a lean month of sewing. With lots of other stuff happening nearly no sewing has been done. So I was determent to get some in before the end of the month. IT may not count in my 350 Block Project totals but it will get me closer to finishing a couple of my Project Uninterrupted quilts.
These are the two quilts in my sight, my Scrap Dance quilt and my Quiltmaker  Auld Lang Stitches Mystery quilt. Both were mystery quilt alongs last year.

They are ready for pinning and quilting but first I needed to piece a couple of backings and batting for them. My left overs boxes are too full especially the fabric one. I need to use some of it up.

I managed to get both prepared and pinned but the afternoon was nearly over. Dinner was in the oven and I had about an hour left. So what did I do. I had a go at some speed quilting. Let's see how far I can get before the time was up. I had decided how I was going to quilt my Scrap Dance quilt so off I went with the timer ticking down.
What happened?
I didn't make it even with simple diagonally stitching following the lines on the quilt so I didn't have to mark the top and it isn't a large quilt. I did get three quarters through it. So it won't take long to finish it. Then I can use some of my left over binding to create the binding. It will be a true scrappy project when I finish it.

2016 Q3 Finish Along To Complete List

It is time to make our third quarter finishing list. Now I only finished 2 projects on my list last time. I keep the list short last time but I am thinking maybe I should have a slightly longer list with a few more projects to choose from.
My list this time.
My Quiltmaker 2015  Auld Lang Stitches mystery quilt is ready for pinning and quilting.

My Scrap Dance Mystery quilt ready for pinning and quilting.

My Forget Me Not Sew Along project. This is a EPP project so I don't know how far I will get.

All the blocks are done. I must of forgotten to snap a picture once I finished the block. These are from my Allietare quilt.

My Victorian Hope Chest blocks need to be sewed together.

Lastly this one which is half way through being quilted when my machine broke down. Hopefully I can finish it.

That will do I think for this quarter. Six projects for me to complete this quarter.

Here is the link if you want to see what others are setting themselves to complete.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #8

Here we are at Clue 8 in our New Year Mystery quilt and we get to finally see the finished block and lay out for this quilt. I must say I love it. I am so glad I have been stitching along with this mystery it is going to be a beauty once I finish it. Alot of block joining to get this one together but I will most likely do in little parts as I have worked on the clues that way and surprised myself how far I could get with only 10-20 minutes blocks of sewing time once a day with a few other projects. I may have 1 too many projects on the go. It may be time to quilt a few and finish them. Then I will have this one to quilt. This has been lots of fun.
Here is the finished block.

Here is the ones I have completed in the layout to give you an idea of what the quilt will look like when it is all together.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #7

Our sub blocks are getting bigger. This week we are adding another border and another stitch and flip corner. Considering how small the HST units started at clue 1 to the size the blocks are now. I am feeling more in my comfort zone the larger the blocks become. It has been good working with the smaller pieces. I know I can work with them now and I have enjoyed it. My chain piecing session.

I have finished clue 7 actually before the last clue has been release.

I can't wait to see the final block layout. It is here. It time to start the next clue.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #6

This is the 6th clue we are up to in Quiltmaker's New Year's Mystery Quilt Along and we are having some fun with Unit 7  & Section 2  this week. Some stitching and flipping going on here. This is good fun I cut all my squares and while watching television later in the evening I drew the line diagonally across them ready from the next sewing session.

Look  here they are all done with their stitched & flipped corner added. I am ready for Clue 7. I think there is only a couple more weeks to go. The blocks are really developing now. I have taken a few photos of possible layouts just in case they are different from the mystery quilt, then I can play around with other possibilities after the quilt is finished and this way I will remember what I had in mind.

January's Bitty Blocks- Bow ties

This year Quiltmaker's  blog Quilty Pleasures has been one of my favourite places to visit.I have been participating in their New Year Mystery Quilt and now I have started the Bitty Blocks challenge as well. Both have small blocks in them and I think it was time I tackled smaller block in my quilting life. I seem to work  with larger pieces I must of been thinking smaller block will take to long to make a quilt. Why I am in such a hurry? I think it is because I am time poor. Now this is an issue that I am working on this year. Time issues. So it is TIME to make time and enjoy the process of making something without rushing. So Bitty Blocks is it, small blocks to challenge me and scrap busting at the same time. I probably won't keep up as it is already February and I haven't finished all my Bow tie blocks from January but that is OK I will get there when I get there, especially if I continue making more blocks than required for the final project. I got carried away when I was cutting the blocks and I couldn't just throw them in the bin. I am sure I can do something with them later.

Here is the link to the Quilty Pleasures blog if you want to join in.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #5

We are up to Clue 5 in our New Year's Mystery Quilt. We must be getting close to the big block reveal. I keep playing with the blocks I have made trying to work it out. I don't think I have worked it out yet. So I will just have to wait to the final reveal to find out, won't I.  This week we are joining unit 2 to a unit 5  then a rectangle to the bottom and a rectangle on the right hand side. This is what mine look like.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #4

Clue 4 is here and we are joining some of our previous made blocks together, which is great. we are getting closer to the big reveal in February and I can't wait to see what we are creating. So this week we are joining a Unit 6 to an Unit 4 and then a plain rectangle at the bottom.  Nice and Easy. It is right up my alley. I fancy something easy for a change.

I wonder what will be next in our New Year Mystery Quilt.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #3

We are at Clue #3 this week already. This one is partially done as we are using the saved Unit 1's from week 1 to make Unit 5 and the saved unit 3's are getting a square added to them this week.
This is good new for me as I am still making some of the earlier units so the fact I get to use the ones that have been saved will help me catch up a little bit. This mystery quilt has become my leader and Ender project as I finish piecing my rows for  my Grand Illusion Quilt from Bonnie Hunter. It has helped both projects along.Let me share what I have got done of every clue with you today.

There is still plenty more to make and I didn't include the HST units that are ready for trimming with the completed unit as I don't consider them finished. Silly I know. You can find this free quilt along at http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2015/01/quiltmakers-new-years-mystery-quilt-part-1/       if you want to join in.

Quiltmaker's Auld Lang Stitches Mystery Quilt #2

Week 2 clue is more half square triangles. I tell you it is a good thing I don't get tired making them but I do get weary of trimming them up so I am trying to do them in batches. This quilt is going to have lots of small pieces as the HST are 2 inch. Now that is small comparing to the HST units I was making last year that were 4 1/2 inch. So I am working my way through this clue  looking forward to the next clue and wondering how this quilt is going to look like when we complete our tops.
As you can see there is still more trimming to go but I will get there probably not before clue 3 is released but that is ok with me.
You can find all the instructions here just in case you want to join in.
