Under the Pressure Foot # 26

I had to go back to my day job on the 3rd of January, so after two weeks of  being back I have realised that I have hardly done any sewing, if any. When was the last time I sat at my machine. I know I cut the binding strips for my Victorian Fling quilt, but they are still hanging over the back of my chair. Plus I noticed because I haven't had any sewing time I have not shared a lot here.

Now if my sewing station is looking like this, it means I was not sewing any quilting projects last time I was here. A set of block out curtains were made for a friend and my LSH(long suffering husband- that is what he claims) work pants were repaired. Not what I wanted to be sewing.

You can see my quarter inch foot is not on my machine and the fact my extension table is in its place confirms my suspicion that I haven't sewn anything interesting lately. 

 I have cut some fabric for a test block which I need to make 30 of as part of a  signature block swap I am participating in. They need to be finished by the end of January for me to get them in the post so they arrive on time at their destination.

I wonder what the block will be. This doesn't tell you much. I am wondering should  I make them all from the same fabrics or do I make some a different colourway. Hopefully you will find out by the end of the weekend what block I have chosen.

350 Blocks Project 2015- August Report

I got started early this month. Finally I am getting things moving again. The groove is back I think. Hooray just in time as there is deadline to meet. I am cutting it a little fine. The quilts are designed and fabric selected but I still need to make the quilts and write the patterns. The pressure is on. Fingers crossed I can get it done. sometime I need that deadline hanging over my head to get moving a little quicker.
This month's total is 30. 

This month I have made some more Ohio Star blocks, 3 more.

 Finished my last 3 blocks for the Little Joys Quilt Along and sewn all the blocks together 3 rows and borders. So a total of 7. All done.

I made 2 test blocks 1 successful and 1 failure. A redo for the failed block. Done. So 2.

I have been working on 2 quilts that are one patch quilts, so I only counted the rows.

The first one I can't show a picture yet. It is a special secret project for my Fully Stacked event but I can tell you there is 8 across and 10 rows down. 10 for this quilt.

The second one patch quilt is my Leaders & Enders Project for this year. It is a tumbler quilt. So far the total is 3 rows.

Another test block it belongs with the red, white and blue test block.

Plus a stack 4 patch blocks from a Fully Stacked project. It stands at 30 blocks.

As I have been doing well this month the next Fully Stacked quilt has been started with 9 blocks completed and row joined and sewn together for a total 20.

My total for the month is 76.

Playing with Fabric #1

I love the 2 1/2' stripe that arrive from Always the Season range a few weeks ago and it seem you like it too, with it being the biggest seller out of 5 that arrived. This stripe is calling to be fussy cut. So I took a break and had a play, to see what blocks I could make just by the way I cut the stripe. I started by cutting some 2 1/2' strips diagonally to create some half square triangle blocks. A few skinny rectangle offcuts were left over, not sure if I can use them or not. We will see what happens, if they are still hanging around at the end of the project they may go in the bin.

 From the other end of the piece of fabric I cut some plain 2 1/2' squares and some 21/2' square to create 2 rectangles.
All these block  are sewn together as four patch blocks or nine patch blocks, except for the flying geese block which is a six patch block. These blocks are all 2 1/2' squares, no extra seams in the piecing of any of the blocks. This reduce the bulk when seam meet, it can build up when you are using multiply fabrics. Here are the blocks so far, I am sure there is more.

As you can see I haven't sewn any of these blocks yet but I will create a table runner from this experiment once I decide which blocks I want to use. I am thinking of using the friendship star block as this is a Christmas range and you need stars at Christmas.
