Wandering Camera # 9

I don't believe it is October already. I spent the first weekend of October at the Festival of Quilts.

While the Festival was on, South Australia was hit with a couple of major storm fronts starting on Wednesday. take out the electricity, dumping rain, gale force winds which caused major flooding around the state. Below is a picture taken two weeks earlier, the distance tree line is where the river flows through.

This is what it looked liked after all the rain and the river broke it's banks of Friday. The Light River crosses all three roads into our area. So in turn cutting us off from the city.

A view of the damage to the roads as the water goes.

As of Friday our main road to Adelaide is still closed but we are able to get in to the city via the other two roads. The flood waters didn't reach our town. It has effected lots of farms through the district.

On a lighter note here is Denim one of our blue Oriental cats enjoying my lap.
So comfortable now.

Wandering Camera #8

What has been happening in July. Its seems not a lot has been happening that is newsworthy. So I have just selected some pictures from the photos I have taken this month.
Pinned a couple of quilts for quilting and I had a go at some speed quilting to see if I quilt the above quilt before dinner was ready. I lost this race but I did get over halfway through the quilting.
I finally found the fabric for a new project. Now to cut and start.
Some hexagon fabrics for my Pemberley quilt. There was eight in total.
The view from my front window on a quiet Sunday afternoon..

The first block of my Pemberley quilt.

Wandering Camera Post #7

What has been happening this month? Sometimes I think you could make a reality television program around us with the dramas that seem to happen. So I thought I would start with sharing the cement truck bogged in our yard. The picture doesn't quite give you the angle needed to see how close it was to the rain water tanks as it slowly sank deep. They had to emptied the cement into wheelbarrows to get it down to the new shed at the back of our yard.

I was away on a quilting retreat a couple weekends ago with 22 ladies sewing up a storm. Here are some of the pictures taken but of course the drama continue when I couldn't start the car outside the post office. What happened was I went to do the weekly shopping and on returning home it was raining so I stopped at the post office which is almost across the road from home. Imagine my dismay when I couldn't start my car, when my shopping in the car and so much to do before I was leaving. Let alone the thought what happened if it is big problem and I have no car to get me to the retreat (1 1/2 hour drive from home). It was all good, the mechanic got me back on the road and I got there. My friends did have a backup plan if needed.

Wandering Camera # 5

May was busy but not busy. I know it doesn't make much sense but let me try to explain. I know I was doing stuff with a craft fair at the beginning of the month then two group visits to the Salisbury Stitchers and a group that came to me but when I look at what I have done sewing wise it wasn't much at all. I wanted to finish a few projects before starting a couple of new ones but it just hasn't happened. So I thought I would share some of the action pictures of the projects I have been working on this month.
You can't see the quilting in the first picture but the one below show you what I am trying. I'm half way through this one. This is 2 of 3 cat quilts. I think little Miss Ponchee fancy this one.

Once again Miss Ponchee doing her quilt testing job of checking the warmth factors in this one. She just loves to test all the projects as I make them. So all finished projects are Miss Ponchee Certified.
This piece is a workshop sample for my friend Kate who is going to run a workshop on a set of rulers. We had a day of testing the rulers. Lots of fun.
I tried to take Miss Ponchee picture but it was not easy with her in my arms and trying to hold my tablet up and take a steady picture. She is one of the princesses of the house.

Lastly my Grand Illusion Quilt is finished. It was a Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt from 2014.

Wandering Camera Post # 4

I didn't know what to do for this month's Wandering Camera post after the last two months I had a plan in mind for the blog post but this month I have been a bit overloaded. Things just haven't quite worked out the way I planned but how often do plans work out exactly as planned.
So what I did was take some photos of display at The Stitches and Craft Show that I was attending.
It was the 50 Years of Flower Power Display.

I had to take 3 pictures to get the whole display as it was set of 3 walls set in a U shape. It really took my eye. The work that has gone into it was amazing alonf with the time invested in it.

A couple of close up shot for you. I love seeing works of art in different mediums and there is a special love in my heart for yarn, though I can't crochet and you should see me knit. It is a spectacle, so  I have been told. The colours are so delicious.

Wandering Camera Post #3

We had a trip to Sydney over the Easter long weekend along with a short cruise thrown in for Cotton Carnival 2016. So this had to be the focus of this month's post.
I happily snapped pictures as we went along including some odd ones taking in the shapes that they formed. I must be thinking possible quilt designs. Like this one.

Our first full day saw us take a stroll across the Sydney Harbour Bridge after a drive in and a train ride to the other side of the bridge so we could walk back towards our cruise ship the Carnival Spirit. Nice to see her there waiting for us.

What a great view from up there.

Then we were cruising for a few days. Not a lot of pictures as I was attending the Cotton Carnivale conference so some work involved. It was good though.
On our last day in Sydney staying with my Aunty & Uncle they took us to the Blue Mountains for the day to see the Three Sisters and the sites. We had a great time even though there were fog and low cloud so we were having trouble taking in the view.

But we did see these little statues along the walking trail. There was more.

So we headed off as the view wasn't coming out  and stopped in Blackheath for lunch and some shopping. I found a fabric shop to spend some money in and we cruised around a antique shop which I came out with an iron for my collection. The sewing machines they had were nice but there was no way of getting them home.
On the way home we stopped at the Three Sisters again to see if the fog had cleared. Finally we saw them.

Now that is a view compared to the earlier photo but the place was packed compared to our morning visit with no view but it still had a special feel to it. Then we continue home to rest up for the trip home the next day.
This post is linked up with the Wandering Camera Linky party so pop over and have a look at what others have been up to since the last time we got together.

Wandering Camera Post #2

This month I took the camera out to my messy garden. I like to garden and I mainly grow fruit and vegetable but I don't have a lot of time so my garden is nearly always messy. At this time of the year the garden has been subjected to a lot of heat as we have reached the end of our summer here in South Australia. Not that you can tell with a week of 32 plus degree days and another week of 36 degree days in the forecast. Summer continues. It make it hard to garden, keep plants alive and looking good. So I thought this would be an interesting activity to see what beauty I could find among the mess of my garden.
Unfortunately most of my yard looks like this. It was a blank canvas so to speak when we moved in 6 years ago. Nothing but rubbish in the yard and it is large. So there was no way I could transform it quickly, especially needing to put rainwater tanks to start collecting water to be able to water a future garden.
In my little patch down the back of the yard you will find this. I took these pictures after I watered in the early morning.
Even in this heat there is some lemon blossoms on the lemon tree.
One of my Rhubarb plants. Something I have been growing easily. I dug up one plant to bring with me when we moved here. Now I have 4 plants in total.
Some lemons on my tree. The tree is 10 years old and came with us also as it was in a pot. Now in the ground and this will be the best crop we have had from the tree.
I can find a little bit of growth in the garden on my lime tree.

One of the few non edible plants in the garden from my friend Mandy.
Lastly the pumpkin vine in flower with a little bee have breakfast. Unfortunately the plants have done well, lots of flowers but no pumpkins.
Nice to see there is greenery out there in our waste land.
Have a look at what others have shared with us here.
