Rainbow Scrap Challenge #6

This month's colour is green. So I know there is plenty in my stash for these blocks. Here are a few I pulled for this month's blocks. Yes there is a little bit of blue  peeking out  amongst the green. It is part of a green stripe, I will cut around it if I have to.

There is 3 blocks this month and with the shortage of time on my hands I cut the centres of the blocks one night. Then the next night I pieced the blocks.

Then cut and sewed the sawtooth star part of the blocks to complete them the following night,  just enough time to write this post and squeeze it in before the month finished.

 The second block is my favourite this month. As I write this post next month's colour has just been released it is Light Blue.

2015 To Do List Update.

I think it is time to check in on my 2015 To Do List and see if I have made any progress or have I wander way off my path.

UFO's from 2014

1. My Pies & Tarts quilt. I am 3/4 through hand quilting this one.
I have made some progress on this one, the quilting is finally completed last night. I am hoping to bind it over the weekend.
2.My Farmer's Wife Sampler quilt. I have finished the top in 2014 so it is ready for quilting. I just have to decide hand quilt it or machine quilt it.

Still haven't made my decision on this one. I keep changing my mind.
3. My Double Wedding Ring quilt which has become a bed runner. I have lots to go on this one.
No progress at all but this is going to be my retreat project at the end of June.
4. My Disappearing Hourglass quilt. I only have made 6 blocks so far.
Completed.

5. My Wishes quilt. Ready for quilting.
I must drop this one to my long arm quilting friend, as I had decided not to quilt this one myself.
6. My Pink Dahlia quilt. I need to find the templates so I can continue.
Templates found so I will be able to do some more of this one soon.
7. My Inklingo Castle Wall quilt. I am working on the 2nd pieced border.

Completed.

8. My Inklingo star quilt. All printed and 2 blocks completed out of 12.

Ready for quilting.
9. Grand Illusion Mystery quilt. I am currently working on the blocks.
Blocks all joined together, ready to do the borders when I have time.
10. My Lozenge scrap quilt. All ready for blocks to be assembled, if I don't change my mind and want to make it bigger.
Ready for quilting.
11. My Aurifil Block of the Month quilt.  I am ready to arrange and piece the top ready for quilting.
Still sitting waiting to be sewn together.

12. My Crossroad Quilt. I am still working on the blocks, 12 done and 13 to go if I settle on 25 blocks. I am undecided about a border I may just make some more block to make it bigger.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge # 3

February colour is pink for our Rainbow Scrap Challenge. It's not a favourite colour of mine but I do like some of the pink shades out there. So there is some pink fabric in my stash.  So on Saturday afternoon while it was 40 degrees + outside I got stuck in to complete my pink February blocks. The first block for February was Marley block and features more flying geese. Lots of flying geese so far this year. Interesting thought! Maybe it is a theme developing like last years half square triangle theme.

The second block for February was an easy block that I really liked. I was thinking 4 of these blocks together would make an interesting block if you did something with the square, maybe a small block in each one or just change the colours for each of the 4 blocks and you would have a scrappy four patch in the centre. Something to play with in EQ7 next time. I having been doing lots of playing in EQ7 I will have to start bringing some of my ideas out of the computer and into the studio so I can bring them to life.

 Both block were easy to complete with their star points. I took the time to cut some extra background pieces for the star blocks ready for next month so I just have to cut the star points to March's colour when I am ready to sew March's blocks.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge #2

We are up to our second block in our Rainbow Scrap Challenge. It is the card trick block which I couldn't believe when I saw it as I was playing with this block last weekend. It is a block I have been want to make so I was doing some block testing and I was using blue scraps to make it. It is a shame it was the wrong size or I could of add the sawtooth star border and I would of been finished already.

That is ok because I used a different method so I can use my Easy Angle & Companion Angle rulers this time to make my block.
 I am thinking this year might became the year I try as many different techniques to make blocks as I can find. So if the is 3 ways to make a block I will try them all and see which one I like best. I will share my experiences good or bad, which one I liked the best and which ones I will never use again.
I can tell you the 2 ways I made this block worked out well. The first one (above) I just made HST units for the corners and used my 6 1/2 x 12" ruler to cut squares then cut the squares into triangles for the rest. For my RSC block I used my 2 speciality rulers and they were easy to use as well. This block can be made either way with easy.
Anyway back to this post and my card trick block. I attack my batik stash for some more blues which there is plenty of. Once i had the fabric I cut what I needed and laid it out on my board. The post said double check your placement before sewing together, so I snap a photo just in case.

 I sewed it together, pressed the block, checked my size, then I looked at it closely. Something is not right. Bugger! I look at the photo then I spotted it. Time to pick up the seam ripper and fix my mistake. Have do I that?

While I was writing this blog post and adding the pictures I notice the different placement in the two blocks. I was happy with my block when I finished it, now I'm not sure. I like the top block better once I compared the 2 blocks though I still like the other one. I suppose I could alway remake it later if it is a problem.

 I am finding this an exciting project and I look forward to the next block and then next month the new colour. I can't wait to see which one is next.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge #1

Over at So Scrappy the Rainbow Scrap Challenge has began. I found her blog during 2014 and was very interested in last year challenge but it was too late in the year to join in. So I just followed along and enjoy everyone's progress. When the  2015 Rainbow Scrap Challenge was released I decided to join in this year. It is a Sawtooth Star Sampler quilt. The Sawtooth Star block measures at 12 1/2 inch unfinished.

This month's colour is blue and our first block is the Whirling Geese set in a sawtooth star block.
Here is my first block the Whirling Geese which is the centre part of the block.(6 1/2 inch)

Here is my first block set in it sawtooth star.

The background for the star points will be the same fabric throughout my project. The star points will be that month colour and the centre will be that month colour with others depending on the pattern.
