October's One Monthly Goal Finish

My project goal this month was to complete 3 toy giraffes for some lucky little owners. It is a little different from what I am normally working on.The original post can be viewed here.
This was the first one ready for the final stitch up.
Now here are the three of them finished. It had been a while since I made the last one that I had forgotten how much work went into them, but I got them done.

I have linked this post up with Elm Street Quilts post, so pop over and check out what has been completed this month.

Vintage Rose - Technique of the Month

Vintage Rose is a six part technique of the month program we are running in 2019. It will start on the 3rd February 2019 with the first full day workshop (9.30 am – 4 pm). Each month we will explore a new foundation paper piecing technique with Elizabeth Chadwick, who is a Quiltworx certified instructor as we work our way through the stunning Vintage Rose quilt.  The workshops are $75 each and the first payment is due on booking, then $75 when you attend each workshop. If you attend the five workshops your last workshop uses the $75 deposit you paid on booking. If you don’t turn up for a workshop without notifying the shop you will lose your booking deposit. Pattern and fabrics are extra and on booking I will give you the requirements. Fabrics purchased at Cynthia’s Ark for this program will be at the special workshop price. Any questions let me know.  The following pictures have come from Quiltworx. These give you some ideas on colour ways.

Don't forget we have Elizabeth's Vintage Rose hanging in the shop if you want a closer look. It is the one at the top of this blog post.

Our Sue Daley Afternoon Tea Visit

Friday! The big day we have been working towards had arrived. We were hosting Sue Daley with afternoon tea. Sue is a fantastic speaker and even if you are not a Quilter her story is worth hearing. We started with Sue's talk once everyone had settled in.

Lots of shots of the afternoon. We had a lovely afternoon tea followed by Sue doing some book signing and some demos on English paper piecing.

I have to thank Sue for coming and spending the afternoon with us. It was a  pleasure.
Until the next time we do this

Our Annual Project Uninterrupted Retreat Round Up

We are back in the real world after a weekend away at Nunyara Conference Centre. There was 18 of us this year, all working on our unfinished projects and some on new projects. We arrive late Friday afternoon and leave Monday after lunch, all our meals are done for us so we just turn up at meal times to eat. No cooking and washing dishes, we just stack our dishes on the cart in the dining room, wipe our table and return to our sewing room.

These are a number of the projects that were worked on over the weekend. We always have a great time with loads of laughs, food, even a few games with prizes. Plans are already underway for next year's retreat.

Janet Collins Visit

A few weeks ago we had Janet Collins visit us at Cynthia's Ark to teach. She was in Adelaide for the Australian Machine Quilting Festival, so the following day she joined us for a one day workshop.

We had a ball and we all learnt lots during the course of the day. Plus after lunch the sewing machines came out and we were able to play under Janet's instructions on a few different projects.  As I was busy I wasn't able to sit down in front of the machine and sew, lots to do to keep things running and helping were help was needed. I was able to soak up the information as the day went on. So last weekend during our Project Uninterrupted session in store I was able to have a go at one of the projects done during the day. This allowed me to use the new Feathered Leaf Template from Westalee Designs and play some more with the Templee technique which I am really enjoying.  Here is my feathers wall hanging before I cut it out then the after shot with the cut outs done.
A close up shot for you.

Plus we will be do a workshop in February on this technique for any one interested.
