Laura Folk Fair 2017

We spent the weekend in Laura for their annual Folk Fair. This is one of regular event and we will continue that way. We were trying to work out how many years we have done this event and at this time the total evades us. We are thinking 15 years, so quite a long time.
We had a great weekend. The weather was  clear and warm with a breeze, so it was a little cool in the shade but in the sun it was toasty.

We had the Sands of Time Workshop sample hang up, even  if the binding wasn't quite finished. It attracted a lot of attention including a few people  wanting to buy it. Valerie from the House of Valerie did a great job quilting it for me. I just love her work so if you need a quilt quilted I highly recommend her work. Just visit the shop to see her work hanging around the walls.

I even had a little time to do some English paper piecing demonstrations used the 4" pointed dresden template and papers and some fabric from Faye Burgos Collectors' Gallery ranges for Marcus Fabrics. I must admit she is one of my favourite fabric designers.

This is what I ended up with. One dresden plate completed.  I think there may be another 2 blocks to be made and a beautiful table runner at the end of it.

If you ever get the chance to visit Laura the first weekend of April is the perfect time to visit when the Laura
Folk Fair is on.

Laura Folk Fair 2015 Round Up

Once again we were in Laura trading at the Laura Folk Fair over the weekend. This is one of our favourite events of the year. We get 2 days trading out in the fresh air and it is an overnight stay in the neighbouring town of Gladstone. So it is like a mini break. As always we had perfect weather for the weekend and it was a busy weekend with lots of great crafts, good food and entertainment for the whole family.

This year when we got there we noticed there had been some road works since last year's event and the organisers had to realign our end of the fair which turned out to be a blessing for us, as we have the afternoon sun in our eyes normally. So no more sun in our eyes and as we are outside under hessian tents the sun now didn't reach the back of our stall so we could get out of the sun when needed.

The 2 new Kids Strip Quilts kit Furry Friends and Too Cute were popular with the crowds, along with the Melly and Me patterns (I think that was down to Oliver Hoot being our special guest on the stall). A number of customers wanted to take him home but I couldn't part with him. So they had to buy a pattern and make their own. Am I a mean person? I don't think so.

Of course fabric was the most popular selling item on the stall. I make sure all the fabric boxes are topped up plus extras for such event as we only get out that way once a year. I don't want anyone to miss out. This year the modern fabrics and novelty fabrics were the big movers. I love see what fabrics people buy it helps me select what to order in and I often see interesting mixes that have the wow factor. There was 1 fabric that has been in stock for over 12 months and not move all that well but I had a customer mix it with a different range from a different company and I thought wow that could easily mixed together to create a great quilt. I may have to play around with them and see what happens. It was another great weekend in Laura. We look forward to next year's event.

I need more TIME.

Where did the week go? I don't feel I achieve as much as I would of liked but isn't that always the way. April will be here next week and I am not ready. It will be flat out so I better get the schedule sorted or I may be running around like a crazy woman. My LSH (long suffering Husband) thinks I run around like a crazy woman most of the time now lol.
I have the Angaston Craft Fair on at the Angaston Town Hall on the 4th April followed by the Laura Folk Fair on the 11th-12th April in Laura. They are listed on the events page if you want more details. I need to finish a number of jobs this weekend so I am ready.
 If you saw my last post on the strip quilts I have been working on, I can happily say the tractor and the fairy quilts are completed with my new Cynthia's Ark quilt label on them. Let me tell you I love them.
 The Furry Friends quilt has been quilted and I just have to finish the binding. So I think they are under control.

I have been working on a little strip pieced table mat design to go with some little 2 1/2 inch strip packs I am putting together so I need to sew that together. I have written the pattern so that is good for me. Normally I do it the other way around. Doing it this way may mean I don't drag my feet on getting it completed, hopefully. Fingers crossed. I will share some pictures once I start sewing.
Plus a new shipment of fabric has arrived. I must say I am a little disappointed that I didn't get all the Tula Pink Elizabeth fabrics I ordered so I will chase them up with the supplier on Monday.

Also I got some of the Spice Palette by The Quilted Crow. They are a lovely ranges of neutrals and  you can never have enough neutrals in your stash.

Finally the last thing in the shipment was some new fabrics to make a new Kids Strip Quilt for our ongoing range of Kids Strip Quilt Kits. This is a little girls one.  So I need to sew up the sample pretty quickly in time for the fairs.

Laura Folk Fair

On the 5th and 6th of April we were up at Laura trading at the 2014 Laura Folk Fair. It is one of our favourite events, only a couple hours drive from home. It gives us a chance to catch up with some of our regular customers, meet new people and share time with other crafters as we come together for this annual event. For our internet customers it gives them the chance to meet us in person and see what is new (sometimes it is nice to touch the fabrics before you buy them) and I can collect some feedback on possible new projects, what they are looking for and catch up on some social chit chat. It is a lot of work but really enjoyable.  You can see our stall all set up ready for trading above. The weather was beautiful and sunny but not too hot as there was a slight breeze.

Our Kids Strip Quilts were featured for this event and the Tractor Time Quilt was the most popular out of the four we had for sale.

 

My hexagon flowers quilt and my log cabin quilts were eye candy for the batik fabric fans there. It is always good to show everyone what can be achieved with batik fabrics. The hexagon flower quilt will be available in a pattern format soon.

The street on Sunday morning as we prepare for trading. When the event gets going you can't see any of the stalls for all the people in the street. With all the craft stalls, food, amusement rides and the variety of music entertainment. It is a huge event.

Now we have two weeks to prepare for the Angaston Easter Craft Fair on Easter Saturday in Angaston.
