Food for Thought

For my idea, it involves you checking out what containers you are throwing out or recyling from your home, There is so many different containers you can use.  I have been eating a new brand of yoghurt which gives me a great container to decorate as it has a cardboard sleeve on it that is easily removed to leave you a plain container.

This leaves you a blank canvas to work with and the plastic lid is clear, so you can use that as well. I made a wrap to go around the container with a bit of velcro  to secure it to the container,

This is how I made it.

Make a quilt sandwich slightly larger than the width of your container  plus 2 "  for the overlap. You can use the fabrics you like or if it's for Christmas - Christmas fabrics.  This is a good way of using up some of your wadding scraps too.  This is where you can have some fun with rulerwork quilt, freemotion quilting or some straight line quilting.  Quilt your strip or strips.

Once you are happy double check your size and trim if you need too.

Next bind your wrap using your preferred method.

Wrap it around your container  and mark where your velcro needs to go.
Sew on your velcro.
Wrap it around the container and you are ready to fill it or use it.

You can fill it with all sorts of treats, It mays a great sewing caddy. You will even find some in my shop holding stock together.

I hope you have fun with this idea and enjoy everyone else ideas.

Until Next Time

Keep Stitching

Cynthia

Wouldn't that be a great idea to leave treats for co workers(if you have any) or friends. Was your container tapered and how did that work for wrapping, any problems there?

A clever idea for dressing up a simple household item and making it a pretty storage container. Thanks for sharing!

Such a great way to recycle! Very clever idea! I have some sturdy "junk" containers that I just hate to toss, and this is the perfect way to give them a new life and purpose. Thanks for sharing!

Cynthia, just a heads up: your blog is not secure with the "https" so go into your settings and click to make it secure. I couldn't come here directly because clicking on a link blocked it and said your site isn't secure. I tried to Google your blog and was able to get through that way. But I am sure others might not be able to see your blog by clicking on a link if they have security that stops them.
Anyhow, your project is sweet and a fun idea.

Oh, that is so clever! What a fun idea for a gift for quilty friends.

Clever idea. Just wondering how you wrap it without fabric bulges at the tapered end if you start with a rectangular piece.

Now this is a great idea to make pretty gift containers. Can’t you see filling them with homemade cookies or candies for a sweet Thankyou for the mailman or delivery guy? Fill them with a bit of fabric or notions for that quilty friend. I’m going to check my recycling NOW!

Thank you for visiting. These containers only had a slight taper that what I used Velcro. That way it would still fit nicely around the container and the bottom of the wrap over laps a little more but still within the Velcro grip.

Thanks for visiting. Hopefully I have fixed the mentioned issue you have brought to my attention. I appreciate it. Thanks

Thank you for visiting. The taper is slight on my containers, so the wrap overlaps a little more at the bottom but still within the Velcro grip.
