Improv Piecing

I have a Improv piecing class in the store next Friday. A new technique for some to learn that have never tried it. I typed up the notes and the pattern for the project when I did the HST Block Party pattern about a month ago, but I hadn't stitched the sample.
I finally got behind the sewing machine and started stitching the Improv blocks.
Then a few more blocks before cutting them up for my star test block. This is what I ended up with.
An interesting first block. I think I need to refine my colour selection. A little less colour in the neutrals and a slightly dark mix of colours. Anything that has white in it or the pastel have to be pulled as one of my star points is a bit washed out. On to the next block and we will see what happens and where this adventure in Improv piecing goes.

Did you Hear Who is Visiting US?

I can now tell everyone as it is now official. We are having Sue Daley, the Queen of English Paper Piecing visiting us  at Cynthia's Ark as part of her Australian tour on the 19th October. Can you believe it! I organised it and I am still doing a happy dance she is coming here.

I can tell you it will be held at the Mallala Institute which is down the street from the shop. It will be $30 per person and there will be refreshments available, the shop will be the for some shopping and everyone will receive a special event show bag with some goodies in it.  I am just waiting on confirmation of the time. You are welcome to book a spot now if you are happy with those details.
Sue will be share with us her story and her quilts, which some of you may have seen some of  Sue's quilts already as I have had a few hanging in the shop over the last couple of years. Note: Sue's Evergreen quilt is currently hanging in the shop until 18th August so pop in and have a look before it heads off to join Sue on her tour. Also remember we will be running Evergreen as a block of the month in two versions one using Rustic Romance and the other one will be scrappy. Both are currently being stitched up for samples.

Sometimes I get to try something New.

Sometimes I just have to give in to the urge of wat to sew some. There's binding to do on two projects, there's plenty more rule work quilting to complete and plenty of blocks to make for two new workshops. So what do I do in Saturday's Project Uninterrupted session, I decided I wanted to try something new. In my defense the technique is something I am considering in a project for my mum who wants a quilt for their new caravan.
My Pfaff was still set up from last week's ruler work workshop, so that settled it. I prepared my fabric sandwich and headed to my machine with the Westalee Designs Honeycomb template. I stitched it up.
The fabric is darker than this picture.

Once I had it stitched it was time for the scary part of cutting out sections revealing the other fabric I used.
I only had two layers but I could have used more, maybe next time.
Finally the last ring for this block. Once I am happy with it I will finish it off with a good press. I did enjoy this technique, so I am thinking about making some more and turning it in to a quilt. There is a good chance that it will become a future workshop I think.

One Monthly Goal- August

It's time to set August's goal. I have been struggling this year and there has been a few months where I didn't get anywhere near the goals I set myself. Like last month where I planned to sew some of the Evergreen blocks but in the last week of the month I started on the first block. This month I am keeping it simple with finishing a wall hanging and a table runner. They only need the binding to complete them.

In theory this should be doable. Then again I may not make it, there is two secret projects that need to be finished this month. Not being able to share pictures mean I can't do either one as my monthly goal as the link up post would be really boring. OR would it? Do you think I should try it one time?

I have linked my post with Elm Street Quilt's post so pop over and check out what everyone else is working on.
